Hi! My name is Andrea Boyd and I am a trauma therapist. I wrote my undergraduate thesis about trauma and how it has been conceptualized throughout history and have pursued learning about trauma since my undergrad days. I am now about to open my private practice focusing on working with teens and young adults, coping with anxiety depression and trauma. I especially plan to focus on LGBT youth as well as youth coping with body image and self worth issues (website coming very soon).
I worked in community mental health for three and a half years, working first with immigrant families in in home therapy mostly, then with a wide range of clients in a clinic that had a day program for people with serious mental illness attached to it where I worked with those clients and also saw clients with with medicaid or medicare who came for therapy only.
I spent my first internship at a Baltimore city elementary/middle school working with children who had experienced abuse and community violence my second internship working in the counseling department of House of Ruth Maryland counseling women who had experienced domestic violence.
I love working with body based and relationship based approaches such as art therapy, mindfulness, and attachment based interventions. I am excited to find community around healing trauma for learning and support.
