Being a social worker can be challenging with major responsibilities at work along with trying to manage current world events.  As a social worker, your personal needs often take a backseat to the work tasks in front of you.  Those personal needs will not stay quiet and often what you see at work starts to creep into your personal life.  Maybe you find yourself being short with others at home, feeling overwhelmed much quicker, or even persistently feeling guilty about letting down your family, clients or even both.  Maybe you have a sense your work is impacting you and you want to stop it before it gets bad.   Having a clinician who knows how to work with other social workers and feel confident in that work is key in preventing secondary trauma along with healing primary trauma.
Over the past few years, I started to specialize in working with other social workers and mental health providers and finding you are the best kind of people! As a clinical social worker myself and certified EMDR therapist, I have found using a combination of EMDR, Polyvagal Theory and attachment work has been pivotal in addressing and healing both secondary traumatic stress, secondary traumatic, primary trauma or a combination of the two.  I know asking for help can be hard but once you get started you will find it to be the best of all the decisions you make during the course of a day.
