Ms. McGarry is licensed by the state of Maryland as a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical and is endorsed by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners as an approved supervisor. Ms. McGarry is an Integrative Psychotherapist and in accordance with the client’s strengths and needs utilizes a variety of treatment modalities to include mindfulness, EFT, IFS, CBT, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and other experiential methods.
In support of this work, she has earned certifications from The Ferentz Institute, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute, The Center for Mind-Body Medicine and is certified in Trauma Focused CBT. She began her career as a volunteer and intern in child life in a pediatric HIV clinic in l993, and, before receiving a Master of Social Work degree worked with the Choice Program as a case worker and health worker and then as a Certified Child Life Specialist in the UMMS Emergency Department.
Upon earning her MSW, Ms. McGarry continued her work with HIV-positive and HIV-at-risk youth at the University of Maryland STAR TRACK Adolescent Health Program and at a community organization for homeless and unstably housed, HIV-positive individuals. In these endeavors, Ms. McGarry discovered her enthusiasm and commitment to working with transitional age youth and has continued to serve this community throughout her career. She then served for ten years providing case management to medical complex children in treatment foster care. Her responsibilities included providing clinical support to children and their families as well as trauma-informed training to foster parents and other child advocacy workers.
While continuing her work as a clinical social worker with medically complex children, Ms. McGarry became a clinical therapist and then clinical supervisor in an outpatient mental health clinic. In this role Ms. McGarry served as the team lead for a mobile treatment program, community-based therapist in local shelters and as part of the school-based program.
